Q1: I've forgotten my password - will my hidden files be lost?
A1: The hidden files won't be lost, but if you're not a registered user you'll have to reinstall Windows to get them back. Registered users can contact our Technical Support Team for instructions on how to reset their login password.

Q2: Do I need to disable or uninstall Host Security Personal before performing a disk defragmentation?
A2: No - there's no need to do anything to Host Security Personal before defragmenting your hard disk.

Q3: Will third-party file management tools such as ZTreeWin see the objects hidden by Host Security Personal?
A3: Absolutely not - the protection mechanism behind Host Security Personal is built on the system kernel level and so is unbreakable!

Q4: Can I hide everything with Host Security Personal?
A4: No - critical system files can't be hidden or blocked. Though Host Security Personal checks all objects before protecting them, users should be aware that attempting to encrypt core items may cause Windows to boot incorrectly.

Q5: What will happen if Host Security Personal crashes, or if someone terminates it?
A5: The software's security kernel is loaded and take effects almost as soon as Windows is started, which means that users see a GUI - not the kernel itself. Terminating the GUI has no effect on the protection level enforced.

Q6: I've unlocked/unprotected an object, but still can't see it in Windows Explorer: what should I do?
A6: Press F5 in Windows Explorer to refresh its display.

Q7: I've hidden an object but can still see it in Windows Explorer: why?
A7: If Host Security Personal is working under Automatic Mode, the hidden objects will be invisible only after the program is closed. If Host Security Personal is working under Manual Mode, the objects have already been protected - just press F5 in Windows Explorer to refresh its display.

Q8: Does Host Security Personal works under DOS mode?
A8: Host Security Personal works under the DOS frame, but doesn't work under the TRUE DOS mode.

Q9: If I protect files an then someone steals the drive, will they have access to my protected files if they plug the drive into a different computer?
A9: Yes - your files will be accessible. To prevent the leaking of sensitive business data in the case of hard disk or computer theft, we recommend you to try our encryption software HandyCrypto which uses on-the-fly encryption as well as file-hiding technology to keep your files truly safe and secret.

Q10: How does Host Security Personal protect removable disks?
A10: Host Security Personal only restricts the use of external drives such as removable drives, floppy disks, CDROM drives etc., and doesn't prevent people from copying files to your computer with them. Folder Security Personal is also unable to hide or lock files on removable disks.

Q11: What's the uninstall password?
A11: It's identical to your Host Security Personal startup password.

Q12: How do I protect a group of files and folders quickly and easily?
A12: Use wild-cards! Host Security Personal supports the '?' and '*' wild-cards:
The '?' symbol substitutes one single character
The '*' symbol substitutes everything -including nothing
Examples:
  1. c:\mydocs\*.doc <=> all .doc files in the folder c:\mydocs
2. c:\mydocs\a*.doc <=> all .doc files in the folder c:\mydocs whose names start with the character 'a'
3. c:\mydocs\???.doc <=> all .doc files in the folder c:\mydocs whose names have exactly three characters
